SINGING TEACHING

Annalisa has just opened a new studio in the Market Harborough area, Leicester/Northampton, United Kingdom.  She will be teaching from here and preparing for her new recording, writing songs and generally having a ball with her students!

For an introductory lesson and meet and greet, please email annalisa@annalisakerrigan.com.

She specialises, for the serious students, in coloratura techniques, and bel canto.  'Top notes and coloratura," she says emphatically, "are easy. Much, much easier than anyone thinks.  You just have to know how!!"

She will however consider all ages, and levels, and can equally prepare very young people for beginning songs and older students for international audition and competition levels.

She does teach adult beginners, depending on availability, particularly those who have choral backgrounds and want to stop worrying about technique and learn some simple mechanisms for making singing technique easy.

Please note Annalisa doesn't take on all applicants, but she's really happy to discuss the possibilities of lessons or partaking in her inspirational singing workshops!!  She particularly loves working with nervous people - so don't panic if that's you.

Pleaes email annalisa@annalisakerrigan.com for more information.

Comments:

(Thank you to students for providing them!)

"she seriously changed my voice, in one lesson - it was such a simple thing that I was doing wrong! All I could think of was "doh!" Jason, student age 30

(Note from Annalisa - it's not always that easy!!)

"I think the thing about Annalisa is that she gets straight to the heart of the matter. She says singing should be simple, and she has simple ways of explaining complex things. It means that I go away not trying to imitate, but actually understanding what I need to do to make the voice feel freer." Kate, age 20

"She is so kind. I came with absolutely no confidence whatsoever, and she completely blew that out of the water - it meant I could concentrate on just improving, not apologising all the time" Simon, age 28

"I really love her. She's just such fun to work with - and my voice is improving every time." Kaitlin, age 23

"I'm 58 and I thought it would be useful to help with my choir work. I've found that not only do I have more confidence and a knowledge of technique that I never had, but I laugh my way through most of my lessons - I really look forward to them - it's like some sort of singing therapy!" Name withheld, Age 58

"Annalisa gave me intensive coaching three weeks before my exam, twice a week. I went from feeling complete panic to feeling like I knew how to walk on stage and perform - and I felt that I didn't have to worry about the exam itself.  It was such a relief, and turned out to be a joy. I passed with a 87%"

Her preparation includes (amongst much laughter, joy and physical stretching):

For little people (pre teen): basic singing technique, folk songs, musical theatre and very light classical

For young teenages: basic to intermediate examination, scholarship and competition preparation

For young adults: national and international exam, audition and competition preparation.

For adults: all level singing, but mainly focused on those wanting to develop choral technique or sing musical theatre, "nostalgia" or classical music.

All students get a chance to perform if they wish at workshops and performances organised for students, family and friends.

Students also have the first option on Annalisa Italian Summer Singing Workshops, held at the Villa San Rocco, Tuscany.

Annalisa's experience comes from her education and 20 years of professional singing with every major orchestra in Australia, and many international orchestras.  She has sung throughout Asia and Europe, as well as Australia with various chamber orchestras and small groups of elite musicians, both classical and musical theatre as well as nostalgic music for 60s plus audiences - the music of Mario Lanza, and the great Hollywood Musicals.

Annalisa studied a European Bel Canto vocal technique with Professor Antonio Moretti-Pananti, in Florence Italy for 6 years. She also studied with Margaret Haggart of Opera Australia, Gerald Moore, John Dingle (Opera Australia), Margaret Fielding, Lindsay Saddington and David McSkimming. She has a Bachelor of Music in Performance and a Graduate Diploma in Opera Studies, as well as a CILS qualification from the University of Siena. She speaks Italian fluently (albeit with a Florentine accent!), and has a strong acting background.

Her students include several professionals now starring in major productions throughout Australia. Her teaching includes private teaching and inspirational workshops.

Annalisa is of the opinion that everyone should sing: beginners and professionals, and enjoys creating an atmosphere of excitement and joy about singing, without judgement, and with the finest technique available

Please note that there is often a waiting list for students, but Annalisa will do her best to fit you in when she can!

Annalisa's philosophy -

"It is my strong belief that singers, young and old, should not push their voices to the point of creating a brutal sound, just for the sake of carrying across a theatre. A light voice can carry just as well, if it is produced properly and is singing the correct repertoire. It should not be difficult to sing - the voice should feel better when one has sung, not worse, and the body should feel in alignment and the heart and soul enriched and happy.  I would love a world where all people are confident to sing out loud and know that they are not being judged, but that they are having a magical time and giving the world something really special.
